President and CEO, Exempla Healthcare
Bob Ladenburger is the Executive Vice President of Hospital Operations for SCL Health System and President and Chief Executive Officer of Exempla Healthcare, a not-for-profit health care system in Denver. Exempla Healthcare is comprised of Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center, Exempla Lutheran Medical Center, Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital, and Exempla Physician Network.
Bob has a long and distinguished history in Colorado health care. Prior to joining Exempla, Bob served as President and CEO of St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, providing strong, values-based leadership for this tertiary regional medical center. The Grand Junction health care community has been recognized by President Obama as a model for quality, access and value. Bob guided the St. Mary's Hospital Century Project, a $276 million, major addition to the hospital.
Prior to his role at St. Mary's, he served in several health care administrative positions including President and CEO at St. Peter's Hospital in Helena, Mont. and at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has held many community leadership positions and has served as a Member of Catholic Health Ministries since 2004.
Bob is the Immediate Past Chair of Colorado Hospital Association and worked closely with the Association and Governor's Office to pass the Colorado Healthcare Affordability Act in 2009.
Bob earned a bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan. and a master's of Business Administration from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
Todd A. Conklin Sr., CPA, MBA
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Exempla Healthcare and Vice President and Chief Financial Officer - Hospital Operations, SCL Health System
Todd is responsible for hospital financial operations, revenue cycle and payer contracting and strategy for SCL Health System.
Todd serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Exempla Healthcare. Prior to that, Todd served in various CFO roles at Loyola University Health System and Edward Health Services in the Chicago area. Todd also served as Senior Manager at Deloitte & Touche, LLP.
Todd earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting from Illinois State University in Normal, Ill. and a master's degree in Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill.
Mary L. Crumbaker
Vice President, Corporate Responsibility and Chief Compliance Officer, Exempla Healthcare
As Vice President of Corporate Responsibility and Chief Compliance Officer, Mary Crumbaker is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership to Exempla Healthcare on matters pertaining to compliance and regulatory issues. This includes the development and administration of a system-wide comprehensive compliance program which provides for ongoing employee education and awareness on regulatory compliance, risk assessment and ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of the program.
Prior to joining Exempla, Mary served as Director of Research and Compliance at Saint Mary's Hospital and Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colo. and had been with Saint Mary's since 1999. Prior to that, she worked as an attorney for several municipalities and as a staff attorney for the Montana Power Company in Butte, Mont.
Mary received her bachelor's degree from the University of New Mexico and earned her Juris Doctorate degree from the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.
Vice President, Facilities, Exempla Healthcare
As Vice President of Facilities for Exempla Healthcare, Al is responsible for developing a system-wide vision for Exempla's facilities, including space planning, new construction, renovation, and managing capital projects. He has been employed with Exempla Healthcare since 1978 and has over thirty years of experience working in the health care environment.
Prior to his current position, he served as Director of Facilities Management for Exempla for over 20 years. Since 1998, he has led the overall management of all capital projects for Exempla. He was intricately involved in the coordination of the design, construction, activation and occupancy of Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center. He has expertise in planning, construction, facilities management, and supervising operations for Exempla's three campuses.
He earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Regis University in Denver. He is a licensed Stationery Engineer for the City of Denver. Al served in the U.S. Navy from 1973 to 1976.
Vice President, Strategy and Business Development, Exempla Healthcare
As Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, Sean Gregory is responsible for leading strategic development and planning programs to support Exempla Healthcare's hospitals and Exempla Physician Network. This includes service line development and collaborative arrangements with health care providers. His role is to help improve the health status of the communities served by Exempla.
Prior to joining Exempla, Sean served as Vice President of Network Development at SSM Healthcare in St. Louis, Missouri. He led business development activities, rural outreach, medical staff development and other growth initiatives for the region. Prior to joining SSM, Sean worked in a strategic planning capacity for Wake Forrest University Baptist Medical Center and completed an Administrative Fellowship with University of Chicago Hospitals.
Sean earned a bachelor's degree in Finance from Texas A&M University and an MHA-Health Administration and MHRM in Human Resource Management from Washington University in St. Louis.
Vice President/Administrator, Cardiovascular Services, Exempla Healthcare
Rick Harrell is Vice President/Administrator, Cardiovascular Services for Exempla Healthcare. Rick is the administrator for the Exempla Cardiovascular Center of Excellence. He coordinates the cardiovascular service line across all Exempla facilities, works with referring physicians and hospitals, and with clinicians on quality and innovation in cardiovascular services.
Prior to joining Exempla, Rick served as Vice President of Cardiovascular Services for Saint Joseph Health System in Lexington, Ky. With more than twenty years of leadership experience in large institutions in Michigan, Florida and Oregon, he has extensive expertise in clinical programs, market development, joint ventures, and facility and technology planning.
Rick is a respiratory therapist and earned a bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care Management from Mercy College of Detroit, Detroit, Ill. He is currently working on a Master of Divinity degree from Lexington Theological Seminary.
Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System
Dave Pecoraro is Senior Vice President and CIO for the SCL Health System and Exempla Healthcare and is based in Denver. Dave joined the health system in 2006. In his role, he is responsible for all aspects of information technology, including systems and strategic planning and all e-health care initiatives, including implementation of the system’s electronic medical record.
Prior to joining the health system, Dave was Vice President and CIO for Jewish Hospital Healthcare in Louisville, Ky. Prior to that, Dave served as a chief industrial engineer for Kaiser Permanente in Southern California and Director of Management Services for the University of Kentucky and Appalachian Regional Hospitals.
Dave has an extensive background in process engineering and health care information systems encompassing clinical and business information systems, multi-hospital operations, materials management and logistics, and health information management systems.
Dave earned a bachelor's degree in industrial and human factors engineering from West Virginia University in Morgantown, W.Va. He earned a master's degree in systems science and health care services administration from the University of Louisville in Louisville, KY., where he served as adjunct faculty in the College of Urban and Public Affairs.
Vice President, Payer Contracting and Strategy, Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System
Debbie Welle-Powell is Vice President of Payer Contracting and Strategy for Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System and Exempla Healthcare. Debbie is responsible for payer strategies and contracting efforts for the health system.
Debbie served as Vice President of Payer Strategies and Legislative Affairs at Exempla Healthcare. Prior to that, she served as Administrator of Focus Health Services and CEO of Front Range Medical Management.
Debbie received a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Moorhead State University in Moorhead, Minn. and a master's degree in Public Policy from University of Colorado.
Debbie serves on several boards, including Mile High United Way, Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation, Metro Denver Economic Development Council and Colorado Mountain Club.
Elisa (Lisa) Wetherbee
Chief Operating Officer, Exempla Physician Network, Exempla Healthcare
Lisa joined Exempla Healthcare in 1998 to take on the role of Vice President of Exempla Medical Group (EMG), the health system owned network of primary care medical practices. EMG evolved to become Exempla Physician Network a health system owned multi-specialty group practice and the residency teaching clinics at Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital. Over her tenure she has served in a number of roles within the hospitals but has always retained her management of the Exempla Healthcare group practice. Additionally, Lisa oversees all real estate and leasing activities for Exempla Healthcare. Lisa has a passion for group practice management and primary care development and is interested in health care reform within medical practices.
Lisa has been in the Denver health care market since 1982 and has worked at for several organizations including University Physicians Inc, Rose Medical Center, Aurora Presbyterian Hospital and HealthONE/HCA. Lisa is a Colorado native and attended the University of Colorado for a BSBA in Business and later a Bachelor of Science in basic sciences. Lisa also did graduate work at Texas Women's College in Health Care Administration.
Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer, Corporate Communications, Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System
Christine Woolsey is Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications and Chief Communications Officer for Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System (SCLHS) and is based in Denver. Woolsey joined the health system in July 2010 to create a Corporate Communications function and oversee internal and external communications as SCLHS aligned with Exempla Healthcare. In her role she oversees all corporate and executive messaging, financial communications, brand identity, media and public relations. Prior to joining the health system, Woolsey was Senior Vice President and Director of Midwest Healthcare for Hill & Knowlton, Inc., a global public relations agency, where she provided strategic communications and crisis counsel to a range of Fortune 500 companies. She earned her bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and spent the first part of her career as a reporter and editor for a variety of print and broadcast media outlets.
